Terms of Use
Welcome to Opedia
Opedia AI Pte Ltd (“Opedia,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) operates an interactive knowledge platform designed for educational and informational purposes. By accessing or using our website, apps, or related services (collectively, the “Site”), you agree to these Terms of Use (“Terms”). If you do not accept the Terms, please do not use the Site. We may modify the Terms at any time; continued use after a revision is posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
1. Opedia as a Knowledge Tool
1.1 Hosting role. Opedia is an online service provider that hosts Character Pedias, Custom Characters, Audience & Fandom Insight reports (“Insights”), and other informational entries (collectively, “Pedias” or “Entries”) produced through a combination of models and user contributions.
1.2 Educational default. Pedias—including any associated Insights—are presented by default in an objective, educational format intended for commentary, criticism, research, and other purposes recognised as fair use.
1.3 User creation. You may suggest a new Pedia or create a Custom Character at any time. All submissions are subject to automated and/or human moderation, and we may refuse or remove a submission at our sole discretion.
2. Ownership of Content & Licences
2.1 “User Content” means all prompts, messages, character definitions or profiles, files, or other material you submit, and all AI-generated outputs you receive.
2.2 Your rights. You retain all intellectual-property rights in your User Content.
2.3 Licence to Opedia. By submitting or receiving User Content you grant Opedia a world-wide, irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable licence to host, display, adapt, analyse, and otherwise use that content to operate, improve, and promote the Service (including in marketing materials, screenshots, or case studies).
2.4 Site IP. Except for User Content, Opedia and its licensors own all other elements of the Site.
3. User-Generated Content & Creative Interactions
3.1 Responsibility. You are solely responsible for User Content you create or request, including Pedia suggestions and Custom Character profiles.
3.2 Creative & Transformative Directions. Users may steer chats in creative directions—including fan-fiction and other transformative storytelling (“Transformative Works”). Transformative Works are User Content (§ 2). They remain subject to § 3.3 (Prohibited Content) and the DMCA procedures in § 6. All third-party names, images, likenesses, trademarks, and fictional or real-world characters remain the property of their owners; no endorsement is implied.
3.2.1 Chat context. For each chat session, Opedia may supply the language model with a short, factual prompt drawn from the relevant Pedia (e.g., a one-line description and public-domain background facts) solely to maintain an educational context. This system-level prompt is public-domain or reference material and does not affect your ownership of the dialogue that you and the AI generate thereafter.
3.3 Prohibited Content. You must not generate, request, or upload Content that
- infringes any copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, or other IP right, or reproduces large passages of copyrighted text not in the public domain (excerpts must be brief and attributable);
- contains defamatory, fraudulent, or knowingly false statements;
- violates privacy or publicity rights, including using a person’s name, image, voice, or likeness for commercial or deceptive purposes without consent, or any other non-consensual depiction of real persons;
- depicts sexual content involving minors, promotes sexual violence, or is otherwise exploitative;
- promotes or depicts terrorist or extremist content;
- is harassing, hateful, or otherwise unlawful.
3.4 Removal, Enforcement & Complaints. Opedia may remove, disable, or restrict any Content (including Pedias, Custom Characters, chats, or other material) that we believe violates these Terms, our Community Guidelines, or applicable law, and may suspend or terminate repeat infringers.
If you believe any Content is (i) defamatory, (ii) violates privacy or publicity rights, or (iii) is otherwise unlawful, please follow the notice procedure in § 6.5. We will investigate and may remove or restrict the Content pending resolution.
3.5 Child Safety & Age Limits
3.5.1 Minimum Age. You must be at least thirteen (13) years old—or the minimum age required by your jurisdiction—to use the Site.
3.5.2 Parental Consent for Minors. If you are between 13 and the age at which you have legal capacity in your jurisdiction, you may use the Site only with consent of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to be bound by these Terms on your behalf.
3.5.3 No Collection of Personal Data from Children Under 13. Opedia does not knowingly collect, solicit, or store personal data from children under 13 in line with the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and Part 3 of Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act 2012. If we learn that we have inadvertently received such data, we will delete it promptly.
4. Educational Purpose & Fair-Use Framework
4.1 Opedia’s default presentation relies on short excerpts, factual data, Audience & Fandom Insight metrics, and transformative summaries for scholarship, commentary, research, and similar purposes. These factors—purpose, nature, amount, and market effect—are recognised in U.S. fair-use doctrine and analogous regimes.
4.2 The Site is not professional advice and is not a substitute for consulting primary sources.
5. Disclaimers, Transparency & Non-Affiliation
5.1 Banner notice. “This is an AI chatbot. Responses may be fictional, outdated, or incorrect.” Always verify information independently.
5.2 Pedias and Insights are auto‑generated and may be inaccurate or outdated; users should cross‑check with reliable sources. We do not endorse, support, represent, or guarantee the completeness, truthfulness, accuracy, or reliability of any User Content, nor do we endorse any opinions expressed on the Site. You acknowledge that all User Content is the sole responsibility of the person who originated it.
5.3 All names, images, brands, and trademarks are used solely for identification and educational purposes. No endorsement, sponsorship, or affiliation is implied.
5.4 External links are for convenience only; Opedia does not endorse third-party sites.
5.5 Insights. Audience & Fandom Insight reports are generated from (i) publicly available sources, (ii) third-party datasets, and (iii) information—including anonymised or aggregated data derived from user interactions with the Site—processed under the licence you grant us in Section 2. These reports are estimates provided for informational purposes only and may not reflect real-time or complete audience behaviour.
6. Copyright & Content Takedown Policy
6.1 DMCA Safe-Harbor (U.S.) Opedia complies with the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. § 512. If you are a U.S. rights holder and believe Content infringes your copyright, you may submit a written notification that meets § 512(c)(3) to our Copyright Agent (see § 6.3). We respond expeditiously and will terminate accounts of repeat infringers.
6.2 Singapore Copyright Safe-Harbour. Opedia is a “network service provider” under Part V, Division 10 of Singapore’s Copyright Act 2021. We operate a notice-and-takedown procedure identical to § 6.4 below and will disable or remove infringing material upon receiving a valid notice.

6.6 Counter-Notices. If we remove Content in response to a notice, we will notify the affected user, who may submit a counter-notification that meets 17 U.S.C. § 512(g) (or Singapore’s equivalent). We may restore the Content unless the original claimant files suit within ten (10) business days.
6.7 Repeat-Infringer Policy. We may terminate or suspend accounts that repeatedly violate intellectual-property rights or these Terms.
7. Up-stream AI Service Providers
Some responses are generated by third-party large-language-model providers—currently AWS Bedrock (provider terms apply and are incorporated by reference). Continued use constitutes acceptance of any future provider terms if we change providers.
8. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
8.1 These Terms are governed by the laws of Singapore.
8.2 Informal resolution. Before filing a claim, you agree to contact us at [email protected] and attempt to resolve the dispute informally for at least thirty (30) days.
8.3 Venue. If not resolved informally, any dispute shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Singapore.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties & Limitation of Liability
9.1 The Site is provided “as is” and “as available.” Opedia disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
9.2 Limitation. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Opedia’s aggregate liability arising from the Site or these Terms shall not exceed USD 100.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Opedia, its affiliates, and their officers, directors, employees, and agents from any third-party claim or demand arising out of
(a) your use of the Site,
(b) your User Content (including Chats, Pedia suggestions, and Custom Characters); or
(c) your violation of these Terms or applicable law,
including reasonable attorneys’ fees.
11. Termination, Access Restriction & Data Export
11.1 Opedia may suspend or terminate your access without notice if you breach these Terms, misuse the Site, or engage in conduct that harms the platform or others.
11.2 Export right. Where feasible, we will provide a means for you to export your User Content before account deletion.
12. Miscellaneous
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and Opedia regarding the Site. No waiver of any term shall be deemed a further or continuing waiver of such term.
